You probably know what SMART goals are: Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Time bound.
We have been told by many gurus that if we want to be happy and successful in life, we need to define our personal goals! If you don’t know the goal you cannot recognize it when you reach it, you cannot work to reach it.
And the goal has to be defined in a detailed way, and every step toward that goal has to be defined the same way: every small step in the right direction is a chance to celebrate (and so feel happy, rewarded, …)
You know what, I hate this concept … it’s so MISLEADING.
The real problem in personal development is not REACHING the goal, it is DISCOVERING what can make you happy. So instead of telling us to define a goal and then teaching techniques to reach it, we should be helped in FINDING the right goal (or path).
