In the last months, I had the same lesson from my coach and from here. To be effective in verbal communication, you must avoid the word BUT.

‘yes, I agree with you BUT …’, ‘I see your point and I think it’s a possible solution BUT …’.

When you use BUT the listener feels that you are saying ‘what I said before is just to be polite, I don’t agree, and here is what I really mean’.

You may not exactly mean that BUT 🙂 here is what they feel.Try: listen to someone and evaluate his BUT. And about you … try to substitute BUT with AND! It really works!
