Let me suggest this post in the Indefinite Articles blog. It’s called: ‘Business skills for developers’.
I suggest it not only to developers but to all IT technical people.
Here is what, in John’s opinion, developers should know (besides OOP, design patterns, TDD, …):
- Understand “Return on Investment“
- Understand “Opportunity Cost“
- Understand the difference between Gross Revenue, EBITDA and Net Income
- Understand Cash Flow, and why it’s often more important than any of the others, especially in smaller companies
