If you have ever heard about NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming) you know what ‘be in rapport’ means. If you are not familiar with this concept, it is that feeling of being ‘in sync’ with someone.

What the NLP guys say is that you can train yourself so that it’s easier for you to be in rapport with people. The purpose (among others) is to establish a better communication channel between individuals to have a more effective communication.

Now, being in rapport is usually a matter of gestures, eye contact, body language, breath … and I think it can also be done, in some way, via email.

I cannot match ‘physical’ things but I can still match something:

. type of email

. VAK (Visual, Auditive, Kinestethic)

. tone

… to be continued …

    PierG-

I agree - it can be done in email as well. There are many clues, and once one starts looking, they get easier and easier to see. It’s a great way to increase communication and reduce the chances of a misunderstanding.

Let’s keep each other posted on our efforts.

I think that rapport in emails is as essential as in direct communication. Best example is a SPAM mail. Spammers do not have rapport, we just delete their mails ( well most of us ) where as You are reading a subscribed newsletter with a completly different mindset.
